The Human Standard Repairs Mind-Body Split

The Human Standard is an aid in making decisions and settling disputes. The Human Standard is a reminder that respect for basic human rights are necessary parts of healthy personal, social and spiritual life.  That we agree to use an objective standard to decide if our actions are ethical or not, includes the realization that all or any of us have been allowing our unhealed injuries to decide our boundaries, and in the long run that does not work out well.

We use the Standard to interrupt our own dysfunctional thinking that has become routine.

The idea is this: human beings naturally have flexible intelligence, capable of receiving a wide variety of information and able to update comprehension and choices at any time. There are other ways that human beings make decisions into action, such as using (inner, psychological) templates provided by conditioning. This conditioning can be intentional, such as when children are "conditioned" by their parents to obey immediately, "or else".  Conditioning is often implanted by fear.  It can also be accidental, so to speak, if someone retains a psychological injury that has not healed, thereafter their responses to certain situations may be reflexes based somehow on that unresolved injury.

People can also be conditioned by rewards, such as the classic Pavlov's dog scenario. The dogs were fed along with the sound of a bell. This happened often enough and consistently enough that the dogs were essentially trained to salivate upon hearing the bell.

However the conditioned response becomes installed in a person's mind and behavior, it becomes an automatic and unthinking response. This is distinctly different than having a flexible response - the full activity of human intelligence. A hallmark of human intelligence is the ability to take in new information and revise comprehension, revise action plans. A marker of conditioned response (inflexible thinking) is that new or different information is rejected. There will be an emotional charge, essentially "defending" the existing model in the person's head.

All of us who are involved in the wage-slavery culture have been conditioned to believe that certain things are true, even if they are not. The combined results of believing these things, and acting upon them, is the entire situation the world has now: including terrible destruction of the natural ecology, and impaired human relations leading to war, threats of war, social injustice, criminal activities of all types, basically man's inhumanity to man.

At the very foundation of our society, is the mindset of the people therein. The human standard is one way to provide an interventive model towards reinstating the human flexible response. The human standard is based on the idea that when our intelligence is fully engaged, we can take into account the whole results of our actions, and truly aim for and get wholly positive results.

The way to use the human standard is this: consider your plan of action. Does it require anyone to surrender any of their basic human rights, for the plan to work? Basic human rights are free speech and liberty, freedom from involuntary servitude, and others.

The premise of using the human standard is that full human rights for everyone is the necessary way to create an entirely healthy and sustainable culture.  It is in everyone's interest to upgrade the plan if human rights are impaired.  Applying the human standard means the plan is upgraded to make sure that the action planned and carried out, infringes on no one.

The economic system that most of us live with, essentially trades liberty and free speech for dollars and what they will buy. How many people are engaged in employment, doing tasks they would never otherwise do, for a purpose they don't admire, simply because they have no other way to receive the things that money can buy?

Wage slavery is a step up from bullwhip slavery in that, generally people can somewhat choose which master they will serve.  And presumably the penalties for disobedience go no further than to get someone fired. Well, worse things do indeed happen when people lose their jobs, like the inability to buy food or medicine or becoming homeless.  In the better case scenario, a person can get a different job.

Adopting obedience when the intended results are not congruent with the person's value system represents a variation on the dissociative split. The mind and body are essentially split. The body goes through the motions while the mind says "my voice is disallowed."  "I must shut up and do as I'm told."  This is a disfigurement of the complete human being.  Yet this disfigurement is so common, so accepted on the economic scene, that it comes across as normal, "the way things are." The mind-body split is built into the Dollarocracy economic plan.  The combined results of mind-body split people doing paid jobs are the military industrial disaster, globally.

The spiritual disturbance that is the mind-body split goes even deeper in our culture than the employment/economic scene, as family relationships and personal friends can adopt dissociation as a style of getting along.  In the interest of peaceable relations, folks elect to not truly speak their minds.  They go along with activities and communication styles that they do not believe in, yet they do it, to keep personal bonds intact. To get along. To avoid trouble. The trouble is the relationships thus maintained then form a sort of envelope that keeps the spiritual disturbance intact. It is the status quo. When spiritual healing starts to move, and the mind-body split becomes obvious as a source of spiritual pain, it can be a difficult transition to make. Not only does the person need to make change within their own self, they may need to find new circumstances as well - including different people with whom to be aligned.

The mind-body split is one example of a conditioned response that is a direct violation of one's own basic human rights (human needs).  With the mind body split, we give up our voice, and our choice, and accept involuntary servitude as a way of life.  We go through the motions, but our "hearts" are elsewhere.  Using the human standard, we can rule out mindless obedience as a worthwhile way of life.   We can rule out involuntary servitude only when we rule out wage-slavery as well.

The decision to engage in the mind-body split is understandable when short term actual survival is at stake. If there is a maniac in front of you, pointing a gun (or whatever), it might make sense to do what they say. Temporarily. Just long enough for you to figure out how to make your escape! And then the recovery process gets engaged, to put yourself back together, and make sure you never have to go through that again.

But if there is, or there was, no option to get out, the only solution is to institutionalize the mind body split into a chronic or permanent way of life.  The primary healing work of our entire culture is to humanize ourselves and our lives.

In short, when the human part of the human being is making the decision, it will not require the destruction of anybody's human rights.  When the spiritual disease is making the decision, it will not even recognize that human rights exist.

Any of us can use the standard by ourselves.  But consider forming a "Circle of Friends" group to rely upon the human standard in making plans and settling disputes.  Then talk to each other about your lives.  Discover together how to establish a more human life.  Build circumstances and relationships that support healing from the mind-body split, and all types of spiritual disorders that emanate from that split.

The human standard gives an additional tool to discover and heal from destructive assumptions held in the subconscious.  We all have them, its in all of our interest to support each other in this.  When people do things together conflicts naturally come up.  With the human standard as arbiter, every conflict is resolved with a healing event.  We put flexible intelligence in the driver's seat for everyone, instead of the same old mistakes.

Challenging habitual ways of infringing on self and other will bring up emotional charge.  We can dispel the charge with storytelling, cartharsis, and the self-care energy medicine.

Wonderfully, energy healing techniques are now becoming known that can remove the energy blocks that prevent old injuries from resolving.  We can tap out the energy charge that holds conditioned responses intact, and thus allow new flexible thinking to be empowered. EFT is one of those energy healing techniques, which can greatly aid in getting in touch with catharsis.
